The YRSDS satellite unit onsite at Healesville Primary school is a partnership between Yarra Ranges SDS and Healesville Primary.
The program caters to a range of students with moderate or mild intellectual disabilities living within the local area. Students attending the unit are enrolled through Yarra Ranges SDS and are supported by our staff to access a variety of activities with the Healesville Primary School community including Sport, Visual Arts, Performing arts, cultural studies, assemblies, whole school events and playtimes.
The unit is located within its own purpose-built building featuring 2 classrooms, 2 kitchenettes, an additional space used as a computer room and bathroom facilities. Importantly students have opportunities to develop ‘real-life’ learning skills involving community access, traveling on public transport, weekly shopping activities, weekly swimming sessions and utilising local sporting facilities.
Shortlisted for the 2020 Inclusive Teams award (top 3 in the state) through the Victorian Education Excellence Awards – we are proud to offer this Satellite unit to the students and families living in the local area.
